Goodbye friend!

In the evening of November 24th, Fondas leaves us for the long journey. Our club loses a beloved brother and fellow mountaineer Xenophon Manolopoulos. Fondas was the first club president and one of its founding members. He loved the club and was loved for his restless contribution and the simplicity of his character. Despite the fact that in recent years he was not a member of the administrative council, he never stopped participating in the club expeditions and cultural activities.

Funeral services were held on Monday Nov. 26th at 12 noon, at the St. John Prodromos church, near the old Kalamata market, where hundreds of relatives and friends came to say the last "Goodbye".

The 6th issue of the annual publication "OROS TAYGETOS" is available with a wide variety of material. This issue which of course is in greek contains:

The production of a documentary

Our Club has made available a DVD with the documentary that was shown last Autumn at the Kalamata Civic center. The subject was the recent club expedition to the Himalayas and the ascent on peak "Lenin". It is worth mentioning that it was shown twice after public demand. This Club production, despite the fact that it was produced by amatures, it demonstrates a certain quality which is based on its authenticity and the warmth of the sentiments conveyed by the people who took part in it.
The DVD is priced at 10 euros.

ANDES - New Year's Holidays 2005!

Club president Emmanuel Alimonos and Panagiotis Kotronaros holding the club emblem on the hights of the Argentinean Andes. The ascent that took place during the Christmas-New Year's holidays of 2004-05 brought the mountaineering club of Kalamata to the highest peak of the American continent, which happens to be the highest of the planet excluding the Himalayas. The aproach to the summit was made from Mendoza Park in Argentina, and the final ascent to peak Aconcagua (6.962m) was preceeded by the necessary aclimatisation and adjustment period on the Andean heights, and included various trainning ascents and long walks.

Keep up the good work guys!!!

The new Club office

Our club finally has a permanent home of its own. What has been a lifetime dream and a hope is now a reality. In recognition of the club's contribution for many years in the social and environmental sector, the City of Kalamata has offered the use of this beautiful kiosk which is located in the park behind the Coast Guard building, across the street from the City Railroad Park. This cozy little kiosk is also home for the Health Runners Club of Messinia. It is wonderful and noreworthy that many of our members are members of both clubs.
The space is so friendly and warm that almost every evening it becomes the meeting place for members and friends who can always find a hot cup of coffee or a refreshment, and chat or bring back memories.

Welcome home !!!
